Location
The rue Montorgueil is one of Paris’ few remaining pedestrian-only zones. It is all that remains of the old Paris market “Les Halles” made famous in Emile Zola’s “Le Ventre de Paris”. Outside your door you will find many bakeries, pastry makers, wine shops, cheese mongers and fruit stands. The Stohrer Patisserie, one block away, was opened in 1730 by Louis XV’s pastry chef and visited by Queen Elizabeth in 2004. The Passage de Grand Cerf (a stone's throw away) and the Galerie Vivienne are restored, quiet passages with glass ceilings, mosaic floors and an array of smaller boutiques. The second arrondissement town hall is where Napoleon and Josephine were married. It was also the home of many historical figures: Goya, Stendhal, Alexandre Dumas, Simon Bolivar and Liszt.
Since you will be right in the heart of Paris, it's an easy walk to the Marais, the Louvre Museum, the church of St Eustache, the Palais Royal and Notre-Dame, and a bit farther on, St. Germain and the Bastille. The apartment is also 5 minutes' walk to 4 metro stations (connecting you to half of the metro lines serving Paris) as well as the RER train (including the RER B which can take you to Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport in 35 minutes).
