Immediate Surroundings

Wake up in the morning and take a short climb up the staircase street to the Sacre Coeur church for a commanding view over all of Paris.  With the city laid out before you, pick out the landmarks on your must-see list.  Feeling hungry already?  Wander downhill to the market streets of rue des Abbesses or rue des Martyrs and purchase hot out of the oven baguettes and croissants for a luxurious breakfast from one of several award-winning bakeries such as Coquelicot or Delmontel.

You are located just down the street from the Bateau-Lavoir, Picasso’s first residence in Paris where he acknowledges having spent the best years of his life.  Wander up to the Place du Tetre and have your portrait done by a street artist or check out the quixotic Espace Salvador Dali.  Meander the rue Lepic to catch a glimpse of the two remaining windmills of Paris and at the bottom of the hill you will find the Moulin Rouge where you can book tickets for Paris’ most famous cabaret show.

Montmartre is the neighborhood of the famed food blogger Chocolate and Zucchini.  Take advantage of the rue des Abbesses market street stores and purchase everything you need to concoct your own memorable meal or purchase just enough for a romantic picnic.  Just down the line is one of the city’s best organic markets along the rue des Batignolles.  Don’t miss out on the hidden neighborhood bistros such as Chez Toinette, Au Virage Lepic or La Part des Anges.  Be a bit adventurous and visit the chaotic circus of the biweekly food market at Barbes.
